Protecting Our Children from Tax-Funded Indoctrination

The Erosion of Public Institutions

In an era where public institutions should safeguard innocence, libraries, funded by taxpayer dollars, have become battlegrounds for ideological agendas. Programs like Drag Queen Story Hour, often presented under the guise of promoting transgenderism, are luring children into confusing and potentially harmful concepts. These initiatives, touted as inclusive, mask a deeper issue: the normalization of what many experts view as a manifestation of mental illness among adults, who then impose their confusion on vulnerable youth. This is not tolerance; it is a form of grooming that exploits children's natural curiosity and developmental uncertainties.

Historical Condemnation of Gender-Blurring Behaviors

Historically, behaviors associated with transgenderism, such as cross-dressing, were not celebrated but prosecuted as threats to social order. In the United States, from the mid-19th century through the late 20th century, numerous cities enforced anti-cross-dressing laws. For instance, ordinances in places like San Francisco and New York criminalized wearing clothing of the opposite sex, leading to arrests and convictions. These laws, often rooted in vagrancy statutes, aimed to prevent deception and maintain public decency. By the 1980s, challenges in courts began overturning them, but the shift marked a departure from centuries of societal norms that viewed such actions as aberrant. In imperial China, during the Qing dynasty, masquerading in women's attire as a man was a capital offense, reflecting a global historical consensus against blurring gender lines in ways that could disrupt society. What was once legally and culturally condemned is now paraded as progress.

Linking Transgenderism to Mental Health Disorders

Today, the left champions these programs as "normal," but evidence suggests otherwise. Transgenderism is frequently linked to underlying mental health disorders. A psychiatrist from Johns Hopkins University has described it as a mental disorder, emphasizing that sex changes are biologically impossible and do not resolve the core issues. Studies show transgender individuals face elevated risks of mood and anxiety disorders, with data indicating consistent increases in psychological distress. Another analysis highlights greater vulnerability to depression, anxiety, and suicide attempts among this population. These conditions often predate any gender identity exploration, suggesting that transgender identification may stem from unresolved mental illnesses rather than innate traits.

The Risks Posed by Library Story Hours

When adults with these issues interact with children in library settings, the risk escalates. Drag Queen Story Hour, where performers in exaggerated cross-dress attire read to kids, has sparked widespread controversy. Critics argue it contributes to the sexualization or grooming of children, introducing concepts of gender fluidity at ages when kids are ill-equipped to process them. Protests at libraries in states like California and New York have accused these events of normalizing degenerate behavior and grooming by exposing young minds to adult-themed performances. In Huntington Beach, a recent story time event drew outrage, with community members labeling it as inappropriate for children. Even some online discussions acknowledge that such programs induce cognitive dissonance unsuitable for young viewers, requiring adult nuance to navigate.

Libraries across the country host similar events under various names.

Montrose Public Library is no exception. Back on August 13th in the Montrose Public Library Meeting Room they had the RGB Club calling it "A safe space for teeni-ish dames, dolls, dudes, and allies to discuss the colorful spectrum of queer-based perspectives in books, comics, and games." These are not benign story sessions; they plant seeds of confusion funded by public money. And they want to increase the funding for the Library District?   NO WAY, NO HOW!  I am VOTING NO ON 6A and 6B…

Exacerbating Adolescent Confusion and Long-Term Harm

Adolescence is already a tumultuous period, filled with identity questions and peer pressures. Introducing the notion that one can "be whatever they want" regarding gender exacerbates this turmoil, leading to dire consequences. Research on detransition reveals that regrets are more common than admitted. While some studies claim low rates, others indicate detransition occurs in 2% to 10% of cases, higher than previously reported, often due to realization that transition did not alleviate underlying issues. Accurate rates remain unknown, as many detransitioners face stigma and drop out of follow-up care. A US study of 28,000 trans adults found 8% had detransitioned, with most citing societal pressure rather than resolution.

Gender-affirming care for minors, often promoted alongside these library programs, carries significant risks. While benefits are uncertain, harms to sexual and reproductive functions are definite, including infertility and loss of natural development. Post-surgery suicide rates among transgender individuals remain alarmingly high, up to 20 times the general population, indicating that interventions do not cure the mental distress. For children, this confusion can lead to irreversible decisions, like puberty blockers or surgeries, with lifelong regrets. Bans on such care for minors in some states reflect growing awareness of these dangers, though opponents frame them as harmful.

Reclaiming Our Institutions for the Sake of Our Children

Allowing mentally unstable adults to influence children in taxpayer-funded spaces is not progressive; it is reckless. Libraries should foster learning, not ideological experiments that prey on impressionable minds. This celebration by the left ignores the sickness at its core: a demented push to confuse and alter young lives. Civilized societies protect their youth from such predation. It is time to reclaim our institutions, defund these programs, and treat the underlying mental illnesses with therapy, not affirmation that leads to harm. Our children's futures depend on it. Let us return to prosecuting exploitation, not parading it as virtue.
