CD 3 Controversy:
Who Is Stephen Varela?

An email is being forwarded in CD-3 that not only questions Stephen Varela, but is in our opinion a major HIT piece against his character, conservative credentials, and record in the public arena.  The email is in response to Varela’s allegation of being denied entry to this year’s CD-3 Assembly by certain parties.  An act that was illegal by denying his right of freedom to assemble as well as denied his right of freedom of speech.  In fact, documented records show it was premeditated and based on a false allegation of “Prior assembly disruption history”.  This was/is a blatant lie that was used to deny his entry.  See attachment #1 and Varela’s formal complaint in attachment #2.  The State Republican Party Executive Committee investigated Varela’s complaint and found in his favor.  See attachment #3.

Unfortunately, this has not stopped some from spreading misinformation regarding the incident against Varela earlier this year.  Far worse is the aforementioned email that is DISINFORMATION!  What is the reason or purpose of such outright false allegations and half-truths?

The email highlights Mr. Varela’s prior role as a Democrat activist in the Pueblo community.   Guess what?  This is nothing new since it was known that Varela was a former Democrat activist.  In fact, he left the Party after realizing it did not represent his values and he did not risk his life twice in combat to promote their radical agenda.  He left the Democrats and in turn they retaliated with false accusations.  Unfortunately, some Republicans have been too eager to accept the   Democrats’ falsehoods created initially by them and their allies in the fake news media.   

Instead of being thankful that Varela saw the light and joined the Republican Party to promote its conservative and Constitutional agenda, he has been and continues to be attacked by those that claim to be conservatives or true Republicans while also claiming to be supporters of President Donald Trump and former President Ronald Reagan.

Do NOT claim to be pro Trump and pro Reagan when both men were former Democrats, yet it is ok to attack Varela for his political past??? 

Trump:

● donated thousands of dollars to Hillary Clinton’s Senate Campaign

● donated to the Clinton Foundation

● Clintons attended his and Melania’s wedding

● stated “I think Bill Clinton was a great President”

Reagan:

● 30 years as a Democrat

● supported FDR and his New Deal program

● trade union member and leader

If you do not hold Trump and Reagan’s former records or past against them as you do Varela, then why him?  Or is it HYPOCRISY???

The truth of the matter is that what really counts or is applicable is what Reagan and Trump did after they became Republicans, and the same applies to Mr. Stephen Varela.  In addition, it is also very important to highlight the truth of Varela’s record prior to becoming and remaining a conservative Republican.

While Varela was president of a VA union group, he cleaned house or removed the corruption that involved his predecessor.  Every penny and dollar was accounted for and shame on those for joining the Democrats, fake news (e.g. Denver Post article) and others in repeating a LIE.  A lie that was used by too many “Republicans” in 2024 to assure his Primary defeat, and today still trying to label the union corruption on Varela when in fact and truth as stated above it was his predecessor.  See attachments #4 and #5.

The vice president of the veterans union, Jason Tubbs, posted on facebook in 2024 that “Stephen Varela, unlike his predecessor, served as president honorably and ethically and always in good faith…This [Denver Post] article is clearly driven and a misrepresentation of the facts.”  See attachments #5 and #6

The email apparently or allegedly ignored and distorted Varela’s record as well as repeated false allegations that were used against him during the 2024 Primary as previously stated.  Below are a few examples of Varela’s real record:

● He was a major Principal who contributed to decades-long city of Pueblo from voting Blue to Red.  A real Democrat hiding behind GOP clothing would not work so hard and successfully to turn this city into voting Republican.

● He served on the State Board of Education with distinction promoting school choice.  A number of pro-choice advocates recognized and complimented him on his role, e.g. “he followed the conservative line”.*

● He won the Party’s CD-3 Assembly choice for the 2024 Primary - only to be falsely accused by a “Republican” opponent of “akin to stolen valor”.  This opponent never saw combat, yet accused Verala, a two-time combat veteran, of stolen valor.

● Continues to advocate for School Choice

● Life long Pro Life advocate

We will take, accept, and support former Democrats such as Reagan, Trump, and Varela any day over those who claim to be long-time Republicans, but unfortunately employ the dirty tactics of Democrats, fake news, and the radical Left.

Yes, candidates and elected officials must and should be held accountable.  The electorate deserves to have a full and “truthful” knowledge of their past and record; however, there is no room and it should never be tolerated (though it does occur too often) to promote a lie, half-truth, distort, and/or mislead the voters just to win an election or destroy your political opponent at any cost.  It is despicable enough when conducted by the radical Left and far worse when used by [so-called] Republicans.

True conservatives and honest Republicans do NOT act like modern-day Democrats, Nazis, Fascists, or Communists who spread and promote propaganda of lies and deceit.  Such conduct and tactics are the instruments of these evil ideologies known as the “Big Lie” that was perfected by Hitler’s Nazi regime.   We trust it was not the email’s intent to adopt such tactics, but a misguided effort in believing he/she was shining the light on Varela.

There are examples, however, of real RINOs or Democrats in Republican Clothing. Communities in CD-3, for example, have experienced so-called life long Republicans who actually betrayed our community, public safety, law enforcement, families, and far worse betrayed children.  Examples include supporting those who sponsored legislation resulting in the sexual exploitation of children, sponsored legislation that mandates sexual exploitation, and voted to de-criminalize drug dealers and Fentanyl.  Those honest Republicans who opposed and still oppose such an abdominal record have been slandered, libeled, threatened, and the right to peacefully assemble violated by real RINOs that include anti-Varela actors**.

*   Subsequently one of his supporters successfully created a new Charter School offering real educational choice for their community, and another individual was elected on a conservative agenda to the School Board and serves as its Board President.

**  This does not apply to those that supported Varela’s opponents in the 2024 Primary who did not employ dirty tactics or participated in the smear campaign.
