The Tides Are Shifting in Delta County

The tides are shifting in Delta County as the School Board has selected Mr. James Creasey to fill the vacant District 4 seat.

This appointment marks a new chapter for the district and brings another voice to the table committed to serving students, families, teachers, and the community.

About 20 miles north of Montrose sits the small town of Delta, Colorado. While the Western Slope remains fairly conservative, things are changing. Across Colorado, parents and community members are increasingly asking questions about what is being taught in our schools—and whether we have lost focus on the fundamentals our children deserve.

Reading. Writing. Math. History. Civics. Critical thinking.

Our children deserve an education that teaches them how to think, not simply what to think. Parents should know what their children are being taught and have a voice in their education.

I witnessed some of these changes firsthand during my years driving a school bus. I heard conversations among kids about things they said they were learning or discussing in school, and quite frankly, some of it was downright appalling to me.

That brings me back to Delta.

When school board member Dan Burke resigned in June, several names were considered to fill the vacant seat. One of those names was James Creasey.

James was reluctant at first, but eventually decided to throw his hat into the mix. Many of us prayed that if this was where God wanted James—serving the children, families, teachers, and community of Delta—He would make the path clear.

Well, the path is clear: James Creasey was chosen for the job.

In speaking with James about his interview, one statement stood out to me. I'm paraphrasing, but the message was simple:

“Our children shouldn't be robbed of the opportunity to get an education.”

Amen to that.

Our children deserve to learn history—the good, the bad, the victories, the failures, and the sacrifices that shaped our country.
They deserve teachers who challenge them to ask questions, examine facts, and think for themselves.

As a Christian, I also believe parents have the primary responsibility for teaching their children about God, faith, morality, and truth.

Our children are being shaped every day. The question is: Who is shaping them, and what are they being shaped by?

Their minds matter. Their hearts matter. Their futures matter. And their education matters.

A HUGE congratulations to Mr. Creasey for being willing to step forward and serve.

James, this probably won't always be an easy job. There will be difficult decisions, disagreements, criticism, and probably a few sleepless nights.

But worthwhile things are rarely easy.

May God give you wisdom, courage, and direction as you serve the children and families of Delta County.
