Who are the Democratic Socialists of America…Really?

Certainly, most of us have heard people espousing the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) rhetoric: housing for all, abolish fossil fuels, pack the Supreme Court, end ICE, end blockades, embargoes and sanctions, end the war machine, end incarceration and police immunity, feminism for all, free healthcare, free Palestine, and reinstate the Green New Deal. In addition, the DSA wants to do away with or change our Constitution, Bill of Rights, open our borders, and ban private ownership of corporate and private property.

Their website states: “But what if you were free to spend your time how you like without worrying about cost or dreading going back to work? What if you didn’t have to think about paying rent or loans at the end of the month, or saving for college, or affording groceries?” This sounds like the World Economic Forum’s leader, Klaus Schwab’s promise that we will own nothing and be happy.

We have a problem, Houston! Where does the money come from to enable people to live without working? Oh, yeah…from taxing American millionaires and billionaires. Does anyone think they will stick around to fund this unsustainable scheme? They will probably move to Costa Rica.

 Margaret Thatcher nailed it when she said, "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." She saw what socialism did to Great Britain and other countries, and fought it for decades. As a matter of fact, every country that has embraced socialism has failed. It is a pipedream to think that the government can supply all of our needs. Humans were made to create, to work, and to have purpose. A society where everything is handed to citizens cannot thrive, but will be easily manipulated and controlled.

Socialists want to remove the fail safes of our society so that we will have no ability fight for our rights (because we won’t have any). Remove the police. Remove the courts. Remove the Electoral College. We will end up with no say in who leads us.

Socialism puts all of us in bondage; there remains no self-reliance and personal independence, which are important virtues in a free society. 

Thatcher also said, “Some socialists seem to believe that people should be numbers in a State computer. We believe they should be individuals. We are all unequal. No one, thank heavens, is like anyone else, however much the socialists may pretend otherwise. We believe that everyone has the right to be unequal but to us every human being is equally important.” Socialism will make us all “equal” with our own individual number as our identity.

The United States is great because we have a free society and free enterprise that engenders innovation and creativity. No one is trying to emigrate to China, Russia, North Korea or Nigeria because there is no freedom., but thousands desire to come to America because of the opportunities given through free enterprise and personal freedoms granted by the Constitution.

The people who are selling socialism are like used car salesmen who talk up all the benefits of a car and after you make the deal and drive off, the wheels come off. Look into the truths of socialism for yourself. It is a very dangerous road on which to travel.

The conclusion is well-stated by Thatcher: “There is no such thing as 'safe' socialism. If it’s safe, it’s not socialism. And if it's socialism, it’s not safe.”
