OHEEJ is responsible for ongoing environmental justice work, including administration of environmental health mitigation grants through the Community Impact Cash Fund.

- GENTAX & DRIVES SUPPORT FUNDING: The bill includes an increase of $714,515 total funds and 8.3 FTE, comprised of $442,906 General Fund and $271,609 cash funds from the Colorado DRIVES Vehicle Services. Account, in FY 2024-25. Funds will address the backlog of upgrades and system enhancements to the DRIVES and GenTax systems stemming from legislative, user experience, and system operational demands.

Disrespect American Citizens in State of the Union
In his February 24, 2026 State of the Union address, President Trump directly challenged Congress. He asked all who believed the primary duty of the U.S. government is to protect American citizens above illegal aliens to stand. Republicans rose enthusiastically. Most Democrats remained seated in clear defiance.
Democrats Reveal Their True Priorities
This refusal drew sharp criticism. Press reports from Fox News and the Washington Examiner described Democrats staying seated as a rejection of putting American citizens first. Trump called out their shame, highlighting how their silence disrespected hardworking families facing open borders, crime, and job losses. Their leftist cohorts prioritized illegal immigrants over American citizens.
Jeff Hurd Sits During Tariff Ovations
Colorado Republican Rep. Jeff Hurd added to the disrespect. Local reports from the Durango Herald noted that Hurd stayed seated during multiple standing ovations for President Trump's tariff policies. These tariffs protect American workers and industries from unfair foreign competition.
Trump Withdraws Endorsement
President Trump responded decisively. On February 21, 2026, he withdrew his endorsement of Hurd and gave his complete and total endorsement to primary challenger Hope Scheppelman. Trump labeled Hurd a RINO after he voted against tariffs on Canada. Coverage by Colorado Politics and the Denver Post reported that Hurd was one of only six Republicans to oppose these key America First measures.
Hope Scheppelman Challenges Hurd
Navy veteran Hope Scheppelman is mounting a serious primary challenge against Hurd. Her candidacy is gaining ground daily due to Hurd's disregard for the American people in his district and his deaf ear when they speak. Reports from the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel show voters in western Colorado are increasingly frustrated with his failure to prioritize citizens on trade, economic and many other critical Colorado issues.
Time for Accountability in Colorado
The episode underscores deep disrespect shown to American citizens. Hurd's seating choice and vote, alongside Democratic inaction, reveal misplaced priorities. Tariffs and strong borders directly benefit American families through jobs and security. With the June 2026 primary approaching, voters in Colorado's 3rd District have a clear choice. They expect representatives who stand up unequivocally for citizens first.
